Wouldn’t it be amazing to wake up and have your own stylist, along with a make-up and hair artist, ready to doll you up before you step foot out the door?
Sadly, for most of us that is not a reality. But there are shortcuts to have you putting your best foot forward in under 10 minutes.
One of the most obvious is to put some thought into your outfit before you jump out of bed. Or play dress-ups the night before if you need some inspiration.
It took me a couple of seconds to dream up today’s outfit while I was still in bed! It took even less time to accessorise, giving me a couple of extra minutes to spend on make-up. Fortunately, I have low maintenance hair – all I did today was give it a good brush! And voila, ready to hit the supermarket to stock up for yet another playdate. Yes the kids are power eating through everything these holidays.
The biggest obstacle to getting ready in the morning (besides hungry children and chatty husbands) is not having clothes and jewellery laid out well.
In my former beach house I possessed a huge walk-in wardrobe where everything, including shoes and jewels, was spread out, making it very easy to find inspiration. Now everything is crammed in a lot tighter and I have a good rummage now and then to remind me of what’s in there!
This Supre dress is a few years old but I love the cut-outs and bow-ties on the back. I dug out and dusted off these baby wedge Roman sandals, which I found for $10 at Southland Shopping Centre ages ago. I’ve seen re-invented Roman sandals (rope-thin straps and almost knee high) trying to make a comeback in the high-end fashion world and it’s only a matter of time before it filters down to local retailers.
One great thing I learned from hubby is when you bring in new clothes or shoes, pull out some things you don’t like or wear anymore (or dare I say it, that don’t fit) and donate them to charity. That helps the wardrobe stay updated and organised.
And don’t be afraid to dress up and make yourself feel better. It’s amazing how putting on your favourite outfit or something in a sensational color can transform how you feel. It honestly works; go on try it!
I took these photos myself using a tripod (which I do most of the time) about an hour after blasting hubby (and yes, even though it’s an emotional time of the month, I had good reason!). It’s certainly not a great way to start the day but I did feel a lot better in this groovy gear!
