With the cooler mornings and nights and bright sunny Autumn days upon us, now is the perfect time to walk out the door with a trench coat on. This should be a staple in every Melburnian woman’s wardrobe. And with bright colours having such a big moment, it shouldn’t stop at the trench. I dusted off a few of mine to show you. I promise once my boys are back in kinder and school, I’ll take you shopping girls and show you where and how to find the latest bargains. But for now here’s a few ideas I hope will inspire you.
Tying the trench belt in a knot around the waist was last season’s thing to do but occasionally I like to add an interesting belt, like the bling bling one on the black trench. The broderie anglaise shorts peeking out from the pale pink trench were a gift from Mum and Dad during their travels in Thailand. Keep an eye out for any colored lace – be it a dress, shorts or skirt – because colored lace is set to be the next BIG thing. We are seeing the beginning of longer length skirts, particularly around the knee and mid calf, but avoid them at all costs if you are short because they will make your legs look like cut-off stumps. As the weather gets colder you may want to bypass the skirt, but leather-look leggings (pictured)or jeggings (they look like jeans but are very comfortable leggings) could be your cup of tea. Finally, before you turn your nose up at op-shops, the sequinned top pictured under the silver trench was a very worthy $4 find!
Last but certainly not least – are the shoes! The snakeskin heels are well worn favourites and even though I discovered them a couple of years ago on a sales table, they are still very much the shoe du jour. The black and gold shoes (they also look silver so I can’t figure out what to call them!) were my very first Target sale discovery a few years ago. The silver shoes are from a recent Target shoe sale and cost under $10. They are so elegant and the lower heel makes them perfect to wear to a wedding where dancing all night is a prerequisite. I’ve had the gold wedges so long I can’t remember where they came from or how much they cost. The same applies to the brown flower wedges but they are so on trend. Shoes adorned with flowers have been walking down the runways overseas recently. All I can say is go for it girls – get your coats on!
